Beverly Burton our singing evangelist sang beautifully to prepare the congregation for the spoken word from Pastor Manzano entitled surviving the storms.
He began by saying that when you are in a relationship with Jesus the only person that is unfaithful is you. He continued to describe the disciples fair and Jesus’s calmness throughout the storm and how their journey turns from tranquil to tragedy. When they started the storm was in the sea, then in the ship. Read Mark 4:35-41.
Pastor Manzano continued to explain that following Jesus does not mean there will be no storms, but we need to know that Jesus can calm them. We should not expect God to calm the storm immediately but we should trust in His timing. The fear we face is that when we go through our storms is not being able to find God.
He continued to talk about the current storms we face now – ISIS, Brexit and the racial crisis that is currently in America. He also talked about the storms the church is facing – men are worshipping at the altar of personal achievement instead of the altar of God. People are not wrapped up with God but the things of the world. Facebook is now the new church, the mobile phone is the new bible and The Holy spirit is the internet. We are more anxious to see what text we receive on our phones than to read a text in the bible. People are struggling to see who they are; male or female.
Pastor Manzano ended his sermon by encouraging us that we should call on Jesus when are caught up in any storm. Jesus can handle all our storms all we need to do is trust Him. After all the winds and the waves obey Him. Surviving the storms means obedience to Jesus!
